Our Verdict
The easiest, cheapest way to make ube mochi waffles at home. It won't replace a full-size Belgian waffle iron for a crowd, but for one or two people, it turns out crisp, chewy, perfectly portioned waffles from any of our favorite ube mixes, and the lilac color is a bonus.
What We Liked
- Makes 4-inch waffles in a few minutes, which is ideal for ube mochi waffles: the small plates give a high ratio of crispy edge to chewy middle
- Tiny and light (about 1.5 lb and 6.4 inches long), so it fits in a drawer, a dorm, or an RV and comes out for a quick breakfast without taking over the counter
- Dual nonstick plates and no settings to fuss with: plug it in, wait for the light, and cook
- At around $11, it's an inexpensive way to try all the ube pancake and mochi mixes we've reviewed, and it comes in a lilac color that suits an ube kitchen
Drawbacks
- It makes one small waffle at a time, so feeding a family means standing at it for a while
- There's no temperature control or on/off switch, and sticky mochi batters can overflow the edges if you add more than about 3 tablespoons
