Our Verdict
An inexpensive, easy-to-find Filipino ube extract for everyday baking and drinks. It's not a boutique, dye-free extract like OliveNation, but for a couple of dollars it's a handy way to make ube taste more like ube in smoothies, frostings, and quick breads.
What We Liked
- One of the cheapest ways to add ube flavor, at under $3 a bottle, so it's easy to keep a spare in the pantry
- A product of the Philippines that's widely stocked. On Weee! it sells 100+ bottles a week, so it's rarely hard to find
- The small 30 ml bottle is plenty for a few batches of cookies, smoothies, or frosting, since you only need a few drops at a time
- Works well as a flavor booster next to ube powder or halaya, where the ube can otherwise get lost behind other ingredients
Drawbacks
- The online listing doesn't spell out the full ingredients or coloring, so check the label if you avoid artificial flavors or dyes
- Weee! sets a two-bottle minimum on this item, and it's a lot less concentrated than premium extracts, so you'll use more per recipe
Key Features
- 30 ml bottle
