Our Verdict

If you make no-churn or churned ice cream more than a couple of times a year, the Tovolo Glide-A-Scoop is a cheap upgrade over a loaf pan covered in foil. The insulated walls, tight lid, and long scooping shape keep homemade ice cream creamier for longer and make serving it easier. Buy the 2.5-quart size if you like to double batches, but for a single recipe like our ube cheesecake ripple ice cream, the 1.5-quart tub is just right.

What We Liked

  • Double-walled, insulated BPA-free plastic slows melting on the counter and helps prevent freezer burn
  • Long, slender shape guides the scoop for clean, round scoops and shows off swirls and ripples nicely
  • Snap-on airtight lid keeps out freezer odors, and the tubs stack to save freezer space
  • Dishwasher safe, with a non-slip base, and it comes in a bunch of bright colors; 4.7 stars from 33 reviews on Tovolo's site

Drawbacks

  • The 1.5-quart size holds one batch of most no-churn recipes with little room to spare, so get the 2.5-quart size if you double recipes
  • The 11.5-inch length fits most freezer doors but can be awkward on short, crowded freezer shelves
  • Plastic doesn't chill as fast as a metal loaf pan, so freshly made ice cream takes a little longer to set
  • A stainless steel Tovolo tub sold at Target had only one review when we checked, so stick with this plastic Glide-A-Scoop version

Key Features

  • 1.5-quart capacity (also available in 2.5 qt)
  • 11.5" L x 4" W x 4.13" H
  • Insulated, double-walled BPA-free plastic
  • Airtight snap-on lid, stackable design, non-slip base
  • Dishwasher safe
