Our Verdict
A solid, budget-friendly halaya that does everything you'd want a jar of ube jam to do: spread, swirl, and bake. It doesn't have the boutique reputation of Fila Manila, but for everyday pandesal and weeknight desserts, it's a great value and worth grabbing when you spot it.
What We Liked
- One of the most affordable jars of halaya we've found, often on sale for under $6 at Filipino online grocers
- Made in the Philippines by Global Food Solutions in San Pablo, Laguna, a manufacturer that specializes in tropical fruit preserves
- A versatile, spreadable texture that works straight from the jar on pandesal, stirred into halo-halo, or whisked into frozen yogurt and cake batters
- The 12 oz jar is the right size for one or two recipes, so it doesn't sit half-used in the fridge for weeks
Drawbacks
- It's harder to find than bigger brands like Tropics or Monika; outside of Filipino grocers and sites like Sukli, you'll rarely see it on shelves
- The retailer listing doesn't give a full ingredient list, so check the label if you avoid added colors or preservatives
